Can Cashless Payments Benefit Your Business?

It's Friday afternoon. 

You've finished your last job for the week.

You get home and sit down to have a final glance through your books.

By this point in the day your minds only half in it, what you're really thinking about is how your first pint will look at the Winchester. 

Lo and behold, to put a dampener on your evening, you notice an ever growing list of unpaid customers and alarms start ringing in your head. 

Instead of knocking off for the weekend and spending time with friends and family, you're now stuck chasing down customers with way overdue payments, only to hear the same old excuses. 

If this situation is familiar, maybe it's time to start considering cashless payments.

Nowadays, there are a number of options to take payment without your customer needing cash and for most customers, they expect this to be the case. 

For a while, taking cashless payments was expensive and not particularly easy to use, however there are now a number that are easy to use and small enough that they can be stored in a pocket or glove compartment. 

At the moment, there are two cashless payment options that you should consider. 

  1. Direct Debits
  2. Card Payments

 Direct Debits


Being able to take direct debits will be a game-changer for your business and GoCardless is currently one of the best means of doing so. GoCardless has been gaining popularity in the window cleaning industry and for good reason. 

With NO upfront costs and rates of just 1% per transaction (capped at £2.00), there isn't a cheaper and more convenient way to take direct debits. If you were to add 1% to your rates, a £10.00 clean would now be £10.10. The 10p won't be a problem to the customers and will mean your business won't be losing out. 

Being able to set up direct debits will mean keeping track of your accounts will be simple, and you'll no longer be stuck unsure of when and how your earnings will be coming in. In many cases, the convenience will make it preferable to the customer. 

There is a downside to direct debit payments however. There is always going to be customers that will have negative connotations of direct debit payments. 

That's where iZettle comes in:


Card Payments


iZettle is a company that has been around a little while and is hugely well regarded. 

iZettle provides a range of simple to use card readers that connect to your smart phones or tablet. iZettle card readers allow you to take payments (and even have a range of your payment structures pre-made) in seconds from literally anywhere, so long as you have your phone with you. It can display your logo, create a shopfront for the app and will send email receipts (or can be used with a printer) on your behalf. 

In the interest of cutting to the chase, here's the low down of what iZettle will cost to use.

Most of the cost with iZettle, much like GoCardless, is per transaction. Transaction rates start at 2.75% of each transaction and will decrease the more you use it. This is a competitive rate for card readers. The card reader usually retails at £59.00 + VAT however for a limited time you can get it for £25.00 HERE

The cost per transaction can easily be accommodated by adding 3% to your fees. A house worth £10.00 can will now cost £10.30. That 30p won't make a difference to the customer and will mean now you can take card payments cost free. 

More than that though, whilst customers may not have cash, they are rarely going to be without their card. 

Can you justify a £25.00+Vat spend if it means no more repeat visits to customers, chasing down payments and hearing the same old excuses.

Now let’s talk cost. As ever we want to be as transparent as possible so there’s no catches or hidden costs. Firstly, both are subject to a £500.00 deposit. We’ve kept this low to avoid hefty upfront charges and to spread as much of the cost as possible. Secondly, there are NO balloon payments. Once the monthly instalments are up, the system is entirely yours to do with what you please.

The TWO MAN SETUP comes to £156.00 + VAT per month (Based on 60 Payments)

The ONE MAN SETUP comes to £120.30 + VAT per month (Based on 60 Payments)

Let’s put that into perspective. The retail cost of the two man setup would work out at approx£205 + VAT/ Monthly. We've pulled some strings and managed to squeeze that down to £156.00+VAT/ Monthly. The two man option would be equivalent to £6.24 per day including the VAT. Let's take out weekends - this month has 22 working days. That works out at £8.50 per working day.

That's one small job a day for most residential window cleaners. Now if you factor in that a better system could make you more efficient, you could recoup the costs within your first job each day and even find yourself fitting in more work and earning more money each day.

A Look Inside Our Turnkey Van Solution

When you’re buying a van mounted system, it can be difficult to know which way to turn. 

Our van packages are designed for window cleaners that want to source a vehicle and equipment package with as little down time as possible. As sole traders and business owners, time is money! We understand you can't spend time messing around with sourcing parts, installs, getting multiple quotes and it certainly makes things neater for your accounts to have your equipment all in one neat package, covered monthly. 

With transparency in mind, below we have outlined the entire process from start to finish of how we create our Turnkey Van Mounted System Packages.

STEP 1 - The Conversation
The first step is getting in contact with us, either by the phone, social media or by sending us a quick email. You tell us what you need your system to do, what size van/ system you’d ideally like, and the budget you have to work within.   

Armed with the knowledge of what you’d like to get and what you have to spend, we’ll craft a few alternative packages for you to review.

This is where the power is in your hands, we’ll talk you through the equipment and give you the low down of add-ons that you’ll want to consider, and ways you can maximise your output whilst keeping your costs down. This process is fully customisable – require something specific? Just let us know and we can factor that in.

STEP 2 - The Follow Up
Once you’ve decided on a package, we’ll pass you on to the people that handle the finances; they’ll run credit checks and explain everything you’ll need to know about making the payments for your van. Even this part is customisable, there are a number of payment structures and we’ll be running an article on these in the near future.  Want a larger deposit to keep your monthly payments down or vice versa? This can be arranged.

STEP 3 - Giving the Go-Ahead
Once you’re decided on a system/van package and a payment structure, you give the go-ahead and we’ll get to work. We’ll arrange a date for you to pick up the finished product and the rest is done for you. Of course we’ll keep in contact but once the go ahead is given, you leave it all in our hands.

STEP 4 - The Hand Over
The Final step is actually picking up the finished Van! Having arranged the pickup date, you simply make your way down and we’ll hand over the keys, though not without first giving you a walk through of how to use and care for your brand new kit and answering any questions that may arise.

How Long is the Entire Process from Start to Finish?
This can vary depending on availability, though we aim to get the entire process finished, from first phone call to handing over the keys in 10-14 days.

Is it Only New Vehicles?
Used vehicles are not something we source however we do occasionally have availability, to find out whats available at the time, contact us directly. We source most of our vehicles from a company named 'Think Vans'. Prices tend to vary fleet to fleet with vans so they keep us up to date with best prices and can often source pre-registered vehicles which offer great value for money.

What if my System Goes Wrong?
As with any industrial equipment, there may be mishaps from time to time.  At WCW we pride ourselves on having one of the best aftercare teams in the business and it can’t hurt knowing you have the UK’s largest provider of window cleaning equipment in your corner. All systems come with a 1 year returns to base warranty against manufacturers defects. Van warranties tend to be 3-4 years according to make and model.
